August 3rd, 2019: Last weekend from July 26th to July 28th the CarFest took place at Bolesworth Castle in Cheshire. Mrs. Anne Twist, mom of musician Harry Styles, took part, together with some of her friends, to the festival and posted on social media numerous pictures of the event. In doing so Mrs. Twist brought the festival to the attention of her hundreds of thousands of followers.

Each year in the summertime, two CarFest festivals, one in Cheshire (CarFest North) and one in Hampshire (CarFest South), take place in the UK. The festivals are weekends of family fun with live music, excellent food, and top of the line cars. The proceeds from the sale of the tickets to the festivals go to support UK Children’s Charities.

The CarFest was launched in 2011 by TV personality and DJ Chris Evans. The first year CarFest was launched all the proceeds from the sale of its tickets went to Children in Need. This is a UK charity that since 1980 raises funds to support disadvantaged children and young adults. However, lately, CarFest has expanded its support to other children charities. According to the CarFest website, this year the festival will support the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity, Starlight Children’s Foundation, and Teenage Cancer Trust, in addition to Children in Need. Ten percent of the profits will go to support another charity that has not been announced yet.

Each year the CarFest North in Cheshire welcomes numerous musicians to its stages. The lineups are always diverse and fun and this year was no exception with artists like Ziggy Marley and The Jacksons, to name a few. The other major entertainment of the CarFest are cars. Special edition cars and historic cars are featured at the festival so that festival-goers have the chance to have a close look at some of these beauties. There is also a track that goes around the premises of the festival where race cars are driven to entertain the festival-goers.

The CarFest is also ecologically conscious and has taken a few important measures to reduce as much as possible the environmental print of the event. First of all, all the material used to build the stages and the facilities at the festival are recycled years after year, second plastic is banned at the festival and bar operators and food sellers are asked to use recyclable containers and cans, third water stations are scattered around the festival to encourage reuse of water bottles, and fourth generators are used sparsely and in the most efficient way possible through continuous monitoring of their need throughout the day. The festival is also committed to ensuring that it is accessible as much as possible to diversely abled individuals so that everybody can enjoy the festival activities.

The fun of the CarFest is not limited to music and cars. There are all kinds of activities planned on-site for both adults and children. These include the circus, the Roller Disco, activities for skaters, radio for kids, a fort to be explored, and plastic bubbles to be ridden on the water. Moreover,  festival-goers can enjoy food prepared by famous master chefs. This year the chef lineup included Candice Brown, Chris Mackett, Henry and Ian from Bosh, Ian Haste, and Joe Hurd.

This year the festival also brought back the raffle which gave away all sorts of prizes and allowed for an extra donation to go to the UK Children Charities that CarFest supports. The next CarFest event will take place between Friday, August 23rd and Sunday, August 25th at Laverstoke Park Farm in Overton, Hampshire.
