April 20th, 2020: Today Liam Payne posted on Twitter that he is reading a children’s story called ‘The Lion Inside’ by Rachel Bright as part of an initiative called Save with Stories launched by a collaboration between Jennifer Garner and Amy Adams and that will go to benefit Save the Children and No Kid Hungry. The reading is taking place on Liam’s Instagram.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, schools across the world are closed. This means that children living below the poverty line who rely on school lunch for one of their daily meals are going hungry today. The Save With Stories initiative brings together celebrities across the arts who read their favorite children’s stories and post their videos online while encouraging donations to Save with Stories.
Here is what Jennifer Garner and Amy Adams said on the first Instagram post for Save With Stories: “Welcome to @SAVEWITHSTORIES—a spot to watch your favorite celebrities read your favorite children’s books. We are galvanizing (without hair and makeup!!) as a community to support a new fund for a combined effort between @savethechildren and Share Our Strength’s @nokidhungry (and thank you to our founding publisher, @scholasticinc ♥️). THIRTY MILLION CHILDREN in the United States rely on school for food. School closures will hit vulnerable communities hard and #SaveTheChildren and #NoKidHungry are on the ground and ready to serve. As mentioned above the donations collected through Save With Stories will go to benefit two charities that work in support of children across the globe: Save the Children and No Kid Hungry.
Save the Children is one of the oldest children charity in the world being founded in the UK in 1919 during World War I and in particular during the Allied blockade of Germany, which was causing children in Germany and Austria-Hungary to go hungry. No Kid Hungry is a national campaign run by Share Our Strength, a nonprofit organization that works to solve problems of hunger and poverty in the USA and around the world, especially as it relates to children. This organization does so by providing meals to schools, and after school and summer programs, and by advocating and promoting research aimed at eradicating childhood hunger. To reach these goals Share Our Strength relies on the support of companies, restaurants, charitable foundations, and individual donors.
