June 9th, 2021: Yesterday Harry Styles congratulated the graduates of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school in Parkland, Florida, via video message. Harry stated that he believes that they are “incredibly strong individuals” and they they will be incredible in anything they choose to do in the future. Harry finished the message by saying “Good luck, love each other, be nice to each other” and stating that he hopes to see everybody soon.

The Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school suffered incredible loss on February 14th, 2018, when a gunman shot and killed 17 students and educators, and wounded another 17. This was one of the deadliest shootings on school ground in the USA in the last 10+ years. The event left the Parkland community shaken and changed forever. The students who graduated yesterday would have been freshman in 2018, at the time in which the shooting occurred.

Harry has already supported the Parkland community in the past. Indeed, he happened to perform in Sunrise, FL on June 8th, 2018, not even 4 months after the deadly shooting. Using proceeds from the sale of his TPWK merchandise and proceeds from tickets’ sale, at the time he made a donation to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Victims’ Fund.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas Victims’ Fund was set up by the Broward County Public Schools district as a GoFundMe page on February 15th, 2018. The intent of this fundraiser was to raise funds to provide financial aid and support to the families of the victims. The GoFundMe page raised more than $10 million dollars in the months that it was open! The page closed on June 30th, 2018 and payments to the victims’ families began on July 16, 2018.

In addition to making a donation to the victims’ funds, on the day of his concert, Harry honored the victims by wearing an orange pin on his suit. Orange is the color that signifies a stand against gun violence. Later in his tour Harry took further steps to show his stand against gun violence. For example, he posed with his band wearing the March of our Lives t-shirt and he donated to March of our Lives after his concert in Washington DC. He also performed using a guitar with a sticker that read “End Gun Violence”.
