They stated “In partnership with @Harry_Styles, we collectively donated $100,000 to @RebuildFdn. It was an honor to commemorate the #LoveOnTour residency by supporting this artist-led, neighborhood-driven platform for art and cultural development in Chicago.

The Rebuild Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Theaster Gates (pictured below), an artist and social innovator, who is native of Chicago and a professor in the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Chicago. The Foundation’s goal is to strengthen communities of the South Side of Chicago by providing free arts programs and by creating cultural amenities. The core values that the Foundation is based on are that Black people matter, Black spaces matter, and Black objects matter.

Two of the most successful projects carried out by the Rebuild Foundation was the renovation of two vacant buildings on the South Side of Chicago that were converted into cultural institutions. The two buildings are named the Archive House and the Listening House. The Archive House houses 14,000 architecture books salvaged from a closed bookshop. The Listening House houses 8,000 records that were bought at the closing of Dr. Wax Records, one of the oldest Chicago neighborhood record stores.

An ongoing project of the Rebuild Foundation is called the Mellon Archival Innovation Program. This program is aimed at supporting artists who will explore the Rebuild Foundation’s archival collections held at the Stony Island Arts Bank and produce new work that will be then presented publicly. The center theme that artists will be focusing on is the African diaspora. The artists that the Foundation is currently supporting in this work are musician Corrine Bailey Rae, performing artist Yaw Agyeman, professor and performance studies scholar Dr. Honey Crawford, and composer and musician Ben LaMar Gay. On September 25th, The Rebuild Foundation will present the first exhibition of the work of these artists in their revisitation and interpretation of the collection.

Harry Styles as shown incredible support of local non-profits and charities during his tours by donating hundreds of thousand of dollars to causes dear to his heart including causes that support artists across cultures.
